Life

By The Talking Wolf-Cat

In the dark dwellings of fate
As mankind fights over personal gain and ideology
The forces of casualty think it's too late
As they close in to turn us into a distant memory

Little do they know that mankind's strength is to survive
We adapt to our environment and predicament both
To be human is to do all to ensure that we strive
Strive to perfection? Strive to dominate? To keep an oath?
All of the above? None can or ever will know the reason
The reason we fight. The reason we struggle. Why we live.

Our lives to the greater scheme is less than a single season
In the year of the great existence, we have nothing to give
Other than a brief spark of light
In a universe already so vast and bright

Author's Note:

Why do we continue to fight on when we are so inconsequential? Why do we care so much even though we are so insignificant? Perhaps hubris is just in our nature.
