My Promise (sonnet)

By dwells

We frolicked in the sea and laughing waves
You gave yourself to me in waters deep
The tides they turned as sweetly wore our days
But now the time has come for me to sleep

If sleep I must then fondly I shall dream
And dreaming go to places in your heart
To dwell a while beside a votive stream
And linger there before I must depart

But later I’ll withdraw and watch you pine
And smiling as another makes a toast
Then come to you in draughts of cheap red wine
And know we shared the best of any boast

When all is well and you in comfort rest
I’ll guide you home to be with Heaven’s blest

Just read this for the first time... You are a talented writer; heartfelt words in every piece you write. I hope you will write more...

Adam - been busy learning this poetry thingy. The fishing is lousy and golfing even worse. Hoping you had a festive Halloween! River Lily - every once in a while I'll use a sonnet to break the monotony of writer's block; works for me, thanks and call me a softie! NS - that closing is always an opportunity to grab the reader's attention, and this was no exception, thanks! Welcome again to DP!
