An Irksome Patina

By lupus tenebrae

We have the same dichotomy
as gravity and a mirror
with no-where to go but down,

but before you could feel
the sobering pinprick of walking
an empty mile in my shoes,

I said, "let's not play with
the glass and say that we did."

I save you a spare moment
to humour your apology,
to prove that your silver

tongue is a little less than sterling,
then, I passed out...drunk
on this lucid vision,

still hanging on your every
gilded word

like an irksome patina
that just couldn't bear
to see you shine.

Human emotion is so complicated....we can neither say specifically one nor another. The mix of all colours are unfathomable but over time as we, in moments, gather the silence to reflect on what was, what is and what could be...and still we are ever~changing. It wasn't the One, it wasn't you, it was gravity and the mirror, a bit of both.
