Lion Laying With The Fox

By Bella Butchery

Beset your withered heart
My crooked brow
Will rest against
Your flowered crown
Casting a swallowed
Canary smile

Cut my tongue to say
You are worth the wait
For every drop of silence
And every act
Of self induced violence

Paws combing through
Your matted locks
Lick your lacerations
A lion laying
With the fox

Through fragmented eye
Dilation
We hide in our burrow
Cut a flip
From cupids broken arrow

My mind is a compass
Your veins are a map
And with all would be memory
My muscles pulse and contract

On mandolin strings
My bones blow
Whistled lips
And poison notes

Through hallow point
She cried
A severed spine
Cracking ivory teeth
With your flesh in mine

What’s this chemical fire?
I love and admire..
Melting my marrow
As the flames grow higher

My silver fur
You seem mesmerized
Haunted
By that glitch
In your eye

And as our hunter
Approaches
We wont cower or shake
For now we have each other
We won’t die
In this tragic wake

You and I will be weightless..

We will shed our light..

You have to run
From this heart
Shaped box

Paws through matted locks
The lion laying with the fox

It was delightful to come back and read your work again...hope to see you back soon . I read this as a nightmare, and was comforted at "we wont die in this tragic wake"

This is just wonderful. The flow and imagery are so on point. Come back already, we have cookies.

This was stunning. A very primal and yet emotional work. Instinctual. Excellently wrought.
