Selective Hearing

By Phalanx

It's of secrets, each life in it's own hands.
We fight daily, the taste of crushing ourselves.
We survive by remembering the bug we couldn't squish as a child.
There is compassion, even for the things you hate.
Demons are the friends within walls, chattering confession,
Crawling on you while you sleep.
They take dreams instead of flesh.
They too must survive.
To torture beyond the hope of enlightenment is self destructive.
True friends only lie to protect until you understand.
We shouldn't spend so much time with our ears pressed
To the wall.

This reminds me of working surveillance in the casinos. I once suggested we used Sevenfolds line, "if walls could talk to Spill the lies, we'd see the world through Devil's eyes." on the door to surveillance. Almost passed. But the lesson within reminds very closely to this wisdom. Thanks, P.

This a pearler of a piece. Truth, feeling, wisdom and childhood nostalgia all mixed into one brilliantly compact work of art.

Sometimes a saviour, sometimes a problem, that selective hearing. This piece has many layers and says so much. Great work.

I've tried to listen to what the walls concealed. yet, something seem to be protecting me from the distasteful chatter. I had no desire to know, so the selective hearing worked to my advantage. Thanks for sharing this.

If you listen close enough you can hear the voice of primordial wisdom. It's echoing through time. Now what happens if one decides to eat the dreams of the adversary? Rotten food for thought maybe. Cool write, like your style.
