What's inside?

By Dreamless

Always complaining
You're never good enough
But you're here and I'm here
And that's good enough
To hold hands for the night
And talk about everything
Even though everything is nothing
And our palms get sweaty
It's all right

Now, nothing may seem great
But you have to unwrap your gifts
Open the package, pull out our hearts
Because we're here, holding boxes
Shaking them to hear the rattle
Wondering what's inside
But you'll never know

You're not good enough
But there's someone out there
Handing out these gifts to us all
And it's all about you, your smiling face
In this crowd of nameless frowns
Because you're good enough
And I'm here thinking about you
Tearing at the box
Dying to find out what's inside
Cutting my fingers open
Struggling alone

I just can't get to us
It was never you, at all

I'm the one who's not good enough

Reminds me of the question Peter Steele asks at the end of "Love You to Death": Hey, am I good enough for you?". I like this poem. 10
