crooked rainbow

By FadedBlues

the roof leaks & the faucet drips.
after a sullen evening rain, they harmonize in a
vagrant duet of teardrop melodies. the gimpy
icebox knocks, adding tympany to the moody,
echoing blues.

sometimes when I’m sober, I make a half-ass
commitment to get all these arthritic maladies
repaired, make this old house tenable for myself
& the whispering ghosts…
…or burn it down.

just beyond the front porch, the small animals,
chipmunks & rabbits, worry that this solitary man
will deplete the glories of their haven.
& the willows have a reason to weep.

when sunlight breaks thru the blemished glass in
the window, it smudges the wall with a crooked
rainbow. I embrace the elusive joy of it; it’s as
close as I’ll ever get to the flirt of gold.

(on a night when you’re in bed without a lover,
think of me for only a moment.
then sleep.)

Interesting poem, I do not regret left clicking on the mouse.

Let's get married john, we can incinerate the world and every thankless whore who left their angst to mingle with our own. Jk. Kinda. Maybe. Lol..

Funny, the title drew me in specifically....I thought: oh fantastic, I'm not the only one who has seen a rainbow turn in it's downward curve and return to the sky....so..yeah..kinda disappointed to find this was other than that.. though still kinda cool that I seem to thus still have had a unique experience... but regardless, I am glad I did read this one, aside from the very well written desriptives, the perspective, the looking in and out of and around the home and one's lone(ly) connection, attachment and silmtaneous detachment thereof was an entirely unique and welcome surprise. Thanks for the small but largely descriptive view. ~b

beyond sullen or melancholy.... slow piano music echoing, stretching in a silence... impossible not to feel and touch this, the familiar tones and textures... breaking piece
