Reservation of Violence, Tapped

By Maladroit

Me and my pg-13 mind scheme,
trimmed out in pottery-barn neutral green-
ache for complimentary blood vials,
dehydrated rapists-
carcass art
and wind chimes of bones

pin you all up, so pretty

I am shore line sunshine
turned apocalyptic activist
and I would rather the whole world die,
than to carry on like this-
where it is more beneficial to inject yourself with AIDS
to damn the one who damns you
because these laws fail to accurately condemn
when they condone

"She was older than her chronological age.
She was too pretty.
She was too smart.
So, I slit the throat of her soul and watched the slow death
of something I otherwise could have never impacted."

gavels spitting in our faces,
punishing crackheads like killers
and rapists like they forgot to buckle their seat-belts-

you're promoting my evolution-
an indifference to savage slaughter

When they ask me why I didn't try for a daughter,
I tell them-
Every day, I awake to suit up in armor
in an attempt to slay the implications of
the fault in my face
because it's not safe to be pretty
in a world so ugly-
a daughter's choice is
cave into coward
or be born a chameleon
to blend into ugly-

Revolt and I will reconsider-
march on down the road
for vaginal vengeance
have that gun-law pedestal
be forever more
to kill the rapist next door

and I-
the Alabama beauty queen,
will continue to parade the stage
with a castration platform
in remembrance to a stranger's suicide
which has absolutely nothing
yet everything
to do
with me.....

and you

An absolutely killer piece from the first character on the page to the last - if it was even remotely possible for poems to revolutionise societal attitudes and the proper implementation of laws, this would be that poem. This goes way beyond the cliché of Hell Hath No Fury. A masterpiece.

A wicked and brutal assault that taunts the readers psyche! I stand back to watch as your subject takes on an almost ghastly appearance.....hunched over and curved she leans against the bedroom door frothing with total resignation...almost prayer like....her head slightly bowed both her right eye and right cheek probing desperately a refuge from her torment...her mouth opens in a way that sickens me.... I could see the icy chill of cold dark death spill out from her to consume the room... Great write, remember I'm innocent

The world is really quite the fucked up place. But anyway, this piece of literature is powerful and well written.

You're so pretty when you're angry. The truth behind it is, fuck I really hope I dont have a daughter either. Having sisters worries me enough. If something were to happen to them I dont know what I would do. Then as a man I have to think, what if this happened to me? What if I had been taken over, stripped of pride and forced into feeling less... Even with my own suit of armor I dont think I could carry on as the same man. I've always been close to strong-willed women and it makes sense to feel I need you around to not only protect, but to be protected by things that may or may not be too hard for me. I admire you, always.... for still being completely beautiful inside and out despite not only this, but so much else that I know has tried to strike you down. You're a savage warrior she-wolf with her cub and im just a hunter who can't pull the trigger. A man who eats those in his path because the hunger to grow and create trumps the hunger to be understood. One day though, I will find where you rest and I will join you there.

The teen years are a challenge, when limits and patience are always being tested, as our children become master manipulators. And out daughters' choices can be stark and subservient to the culture that holds us all in its sway, but some day... cheers!

There is nothing safe about this poem, yet I sense the protective nature of a tough-love at the end & in the author's note. There are scenes here that make me feel sufficiently angry & awful. Thanks for kicking my angst in the nuts & not drowning it in the darkness. This one is harsh. Kudos. Scholar

...you accomplished your goal, this is certainly violent. it's true, what they say abt a vengeful woman: more fury than hell...
