Walk of Hell

By DeafSoldier

When we surrendered
They beat us
Claimed we were cowards
For surrendering instead of dying.

They made us walk through the island
Most of us were barefoot, feet on fire.
Many were dropping from the thirst and exhaustion
If we stopped, even for a second, they beat us.

I see them pick the weakest men
They force them to dig a big trench.
As we stood watching, helpless, they poured kerosine on them,
They forced us to watch them screaming as they burned.

We walked even more,
It felt like an eternity
It felt like we walked a thousand miles
It was a walk of Hell, to the camp.

I will escape.
