The Red Queen and The Suicide King
By NarcissusNarcosis
The Red Queen and the Suicide King
will always throw stones
as the other cards fall
they can never get along...
She would have him killed
if he hasn't already killed himself
constantly running on a wheel
a despised but necessary relationship...
Such is their hate for one another
the love combined makes it art
they always try to destroy each other
they have to live apart...
But their House of Cards will never crumble
although permanently bent and creased;
they stay at opposite ends of the peace jungle
oasis in between, but they never seek...
If you Wonder into the Land of the Red Queen,
she will behead you.
Always evolving to stay ahead of the deck,
but she will never change her suit.
To the Law of Extinction, she is immune.
Captive at the end of her cycle, never in a good mood...
Regardless of the color they paint a rose,
2-10 can never please.
Satisfied with playing their role,
only caring for Her needs...
The Queen can move any direction she wants
and always stays in the same place.
Those of no face value follow blindly with spears,
but never match her pace...
The court only wishes to do Her bidding,
they bet all on her satisfaction.
But no bluffs to be called, she has her way,
for those under, she has no compassion...
The Suicide King is a beautiful being
always has his head turned the Right way.
But only seeing one side of a face can be deceiving,
when he spins, he brings swords to the play...
He keeps one side painted over
so you can never see
he will never let you inside...
What lies on the cover
he only aims to deceive
his eyes need to watch you die...
Others shuffle along to his domain
folding to him for the haven he offers
with promises to stack the chips in their favor...
But once they are dealt to the King
their Utopia turns to a Tarot horror
he is the dealer of misery, he is their savior...
Jack lost an eye when he attempted suicide
went all-in and failed.
But all who reside can't wait to die
like their King, they will kill themselves...

No, this is my favorite one. In the sixth line, you use 'hasn't' versus 'hadn't'--present tense, which implies something sinister . . . You never cease to impress me with your crafty ways of capitalization . . . everything here holds a hidden meaning; this is truly a masterpiece full of carefully devised innuendoes and perfect rhymes. I love the way you can take an idea and mold it so that many different people can relate to it in completely separate ways. This had to have taken you ages to write, but it paid off, because this is really fantastically sewn together and no matter how many times I read it, I'm always picking up on a new detail that you snuck in there somehow. Thinking about each part and dividing them to conquer is very overwhelming to the senses--too much genius in one place at once time, I suppose . . .

This write is very mind boggling, I had to read this a couple times and will most likely read it again here and there to see what more I can get out of it. I don't play cards much but now as I truly think about it, it does make sense one side of either is shown and the flip is merely a reflection of the same side. Like you mention the queen can move anywhere she wants but stays put, this made me think of movies like Gladiator and Troy where the kings as well as their pawns come and go and the queens remains. Aside from another fact that by majority women out live men there's so much that can be said about this piece, well done and thank you for sharing.

Two of my favorite things used in poetry are here: metaphors and personifications. And it all ties in nicely. Each time you read it, you get something new from it. Love it!

This can mean a combination of things. co-dependence is the main one that i see. But it could also mean a controlling and abusive relationship.... or of Master/Mistress and slave. Everyone will read different meanings into this and that is what makes poetry good.

There's so much here and all tied together in back passageways. I've read it 3 times and I get something new each time. Truly a masterpiece dripping with cleverness and speaks volumes to the human condition, from trying to rule and control on every level to being ones own worst enemy. Using 'characters' that have meaning on every level whether people have read the original Alice, studied tarot, played poker or not, there is something here for everyone on at least one level. Your talent will never cease to turn me on - XXOO

Never thought about a deck of cards in this fashion before, in spite of Disney's Alice. Original and darkly dealt, much enjoyed Narc, thanks.
