Want to Read a Poem?

By Virgils Vigil

Would you like to read a poem?

Would you like to feel your mind bend from the will of another?

Would it please the audience to feel such unfurnished spirit

Coming out towards them, with no way of escape?

If people ask it of me, I'll ask them,

Would you like to read a poem?

Be damned, they may declare,

and be immune to such rubbish.

But without fear, I do not disappear,

for the ear may still be twisted.

And if such it were my luck

to adorn the world

with words—

I would ask twice

to be sure:

Would you like to read a poem?

Would it please the court to hear a plea?

Of pure unbridled honesty,

which may please no man.

Let it be known words are weaponized—

and I've no will to control my own.

When the gate floods over,

and the dark white wash takes hold,

you may find your self wishing

my limerick may not have been told.

And when you sit denying,

any or all may be true,

there will be no one else,

Only you between you.

So think twice—

three times if you must!

Before behooving one of us types

to show a bit and speak the mind.

A blade may be thrust

deep into your side,

haunting you still through the night.

How's that for you?

Still something you desire?

Something lovely you might like to be told

while naked by the fire?

Would you like to read a poem?

Something daring, something new?

Which breaks past barriers we require

to constantly commit su-

icide within, could it be as sim-

ple as opening the eyes,

or unveiling the ear to

be able to see and

tempted to hear

something like no other

could possibly define

in a world full of love

yet constant decline.

That may be all there may be

so savor your last seconds

and think about the answer

to all that matters

when asked the final question

as prophesized in tomes:

Would you like to read a poem?

This certainly has a charm to it, something luring eyes and minds down the depths of its keep. I would like to read this poem, again. +tpu+
