too many women

By FadedBlues

(be warned: this is brutal.)

the door slams behind you

but you don’t care

as you track him to his car

yelling where the hell are you going

in the middle of the night

he’s silent, mechanical, fires up the engine

burns rubber, & the car is gone

you stand there in the downpour

raindrops mingle

with the warm sweat of your anger

& the cold sweat of your fear

silver needles piercing your skin

but you feel nothing

except the familiar tears

burning your cheeks

you would never admit it

but you’ve always known

you were one

you were one of too many women

the last time you went to the clinic

they stitched up the broken skin

under your eye, they said

the dizziness would fade in a day or two

they said leave the broken pieces

of your heart on the kitchen floor

because they couldn’t repair it

& even if they did

he would only crush it again

sure as god’s in his heaven

& the devil turns in your bed

you could go to church, get down

on your knees & petition heaven

for a smaller mountain

to carry on your back

ask for mercy, beg for pity

but who would pity you

you’re a rag

used & wrung out

to be used again

you’re disgusting

Not matter how much education I obtain, two things beyond my comprehension are abusive relationships and addiction. For me, it seems sosimple, leave & quit. I have a hard time coughing up sympathy and an even harder time faking it.

Your story telling style of poetry really shines here in this dark piece. You are a versatile poet, maybe more than you realize. This is, indeed, brutal. It almost sounds like that damn voice in my head that torments me so with ruthless self-deprecation. Pitiless voice to this mean-spirited verse. Thanks for provoking my thoughts, FB, as always.

What makes you so unique is your ability to write from so many different perspectives and unexpected viewpoints. Another well wrought piece from the man with many pens.

Friends, thanks. a poem can hold every emotion, & sometimes, is not so pretty...

I never did understand that kind of abuse. I'd rather just leave if she's that hard to deal with. Excellent work. Later -

sometimes its hard to recognize that things that are right in front of your face and you need to step back and look at them from a different perspective to see the complete view. Just because something looks like it is the woman's fault the tables can be turned and it can just as well we be mans fault. either way the burden to bear lies within both and you have made some good points here Faded. You made me cry bringing back memories i would rather no remember but you made me see things through different eyes so to speak. Thank you Sir for opening my eyes.... Scholar

The battered child syndrome: must be something I did? I'll try harder next time. The insecure future syndrome: if he leaves me I'll have nothing, what will I feed the babies? And changes will be made for many, but not all, the walking wounded and the dearly departed. Striking piece (pun intended)

Deep shit. True shit. I love how the thoughts flowed and how everything is put together. I don't know if there is a word for how this flows so nicely. Not being able to leave your own destruction is hard to live with and describe and you did it so nicely
