Blooming on the decline
By cadymae
The sunshine of days gone by
lights the room of Miss Mary
Pale cheeks frame the blue eyes
that saw those rays that
day
The very air seemed to be laughing
As ice cubes
clink-tinked in slender glasses
Shoulders bare and freckled
shrugged off white purse straps
while reaching for orange
smiles
and lemonade and rainbow sherbet
That day, so long ago,
in Miss Mary's yard
Who knew a ray of sunshine
Could
reach so far across time.

Magical. Astounding penladyship.

So sad and thoughtful it seemed to me, such memories always leave this print, and always up to the person to try and deal with the time between prints, as it goes by. So vivid in your writing.

You guys are lovely with your feedback and close readings! Thank you to all three of you. I was picturing the roommate of my mother's during a rehab stint in March. the lady had the most wonderful skin and eyes and smile. She seemed like someone who'd have hosted a tea party for her daughter, circa 1950
