Exhaled Exultations

By Dei

Exalted.
Lift and carry me with single word responses
Your inky single syllables tattooing saturated grins to pin up my cheeks
Ushering the great, deep hollowing in my gut.
It's all super.ficicial super.nova combustion sinking in teeth first
Tasting the tail end of failed star fins on my hungry tongue.
What a bunch of nonsense.
Cohesive as this could ever be. You wouldn't understand it anyway.
But you would lift me away from my self righteousness
With brisk single word responses till you fell asleep
Leaving me again to dream that this time "Hi." really meant something.

Keeping it overly-simple perhaps, because sometimes simpler is better, but not all the time. Eventually the knuckle-dragging cave man will surface and single words will turn into physical blows, or maybe only rejection without expression or confession. Not a good partner for a poet I'd guess? Well done Natelle!
