this ain't abt a poet

By FadedBlues

{inside me are the heart of the savage & the blood of the beast,

bridled & rode hard by the spirit of the poet, in the name of

adventure & art.}

I started this wandering

            a long time ago.

expectations were high

            but the payoff was low.

the road never took me

            to a silver-strand shore,

but to cities of labor

            & to jungles of war.

there were days lost in thunder

            when the sky would scream.

these were tempered by nights

I made love in a dream.

on my desolate high-ways

there were times that I found

a friend or a faith

to which I could be bound.

after years in the sun

            I’ll reflect in the shade

of the loves that I’ve lost

& the friends that I’ve made.

my heart still reminds me

that it could have been worse,

to have missed Nature’s beauty

            & the glory of verse.

now the road is short

            & I’m gettin’ old.

& this poem is over  -

            my story is told.

Thanks as always. the comments you leave here, it's not why I write, but it's why I post my work here. you're amazing!...

  • A former member wrote: I've said before that some of your writes have a 'wandering samurai' feel to them...never has that sensation been more pronounced than it is in this poem. It's the art & adventure of it all, ain't it?...some of the best poems contain no words. You took my mind down the road & back with this one...outstanding.

You're so much more than a poet in many ways, but this is definitely about a poet. A poet picks up the important details others overlook. A poet remembers, sweet memories as well as the painful. If you aren't a poet, I've never read one. Its the simple truths that make a life -XXOO Scholar

It's alway a joy to read your works, Though I may not always comment. I liked how this was set out and the journey of the beast, poet, and savage heart. Thank you. Scholar
