Here.. it called out, from down the way,
though it was not, a voice, persay.
It was the man inside the lake.

So long did it beckon, an' so I came
as far as I could, to just see his shape.
It was the man inside the lake.

He motioned, unmoving, a moony wave,
to shore, where cattails hissed an' swayed.
"You there, won't you go away! " , I exclaimed.

Yet he flickered just, an erie gaze,
so long did it beckon and so I came.
It was the man inside the lake.

"To hear without ear, to speak an' not say...
to live without fear, of dying of age...
come tread the waters and give me your name."


So in I did wade, in stride to my waist,
I held my breath, then spake my name,
an' swam my fingers though his face.

So passed the hours, from night to day...
...again and again, in endless refrain.




Aeon to aeon, and still I remain,
the cursed immortal, the man in the lake.
