Diving - Repost

By cre

Sun so hot
pavement burnt feet and concrete heat
the cool, cool shade.

I was always afraid to dive.

Tempted with the waving of the water
the cool, cool water
The glancing sun drew camera-flash sparkles
through widened childhood eyes.
I was still afraid to dive.

How many trips
To the end of a nameless spring
Until I could finally fling
My body
Into the cool relief
Something we all seek.

Fear delays me
But it will not stop me.
I will not always be afraid
To dive.

The repetition gives this an interesting rhythm through to the contrast at the end. I enjoyed, and certainly identified with it.

Yes! I'm so glad you reposted this, even so much more now that you have explained it, and I now get it fully! Yay.
