blue moon in hiding

By lupus tenebrae

You were there, beyond the veil of night,
lingering just somewhere out of sight,
once in blue moon sorrows, you descend
till the sunlight chases you again.
Beyond shadows of a doubting eye,
there you sleep, and you forever lie

Keeping all the vestiges of me,
yesterdays of how I used to be;
I was bitter, sobbing to the wind,
I was young, and playing my pretend.

Then my father pointed to the sky,
told me there were faces riding by,
between all the streetlights I could find,
I looked up and smiled there, in kind.

Hoping Ursa Major would return
with pockets full of novas yet to burn,
with tails of little comets, sent from you,
and promises of seeing something blue.

Coming from someone who has parental issues out of the tush, I couldn't see past my own situation with my father. And this took me by surprise and shame when I got to commenting on it. Though my favorite part of reading and commenting on poems is being able to be transported away, or to be set in that same person's skin, I found I could only think of myself while reading this, and that it made my cheeks flare. How beautifully tilted and spun this poem was. Thank you for sharing.
