Conscience

By lupus tenebrae

I never heard my voice before
or in such a lulling form,
its calm had moved in serpentine,
tying knots around my neck,
and it told me;

“Hush, and listen to the peace”

My heart went out at once, it seemed,
a dimmer switch was tousled,
my hair was ruffled by playful hands,
and soon, I knew I was safe.
Yes, in due time,

my madness will diminish,

not in some grandiose fashion
or faux-religious rite,
but a patter, a drizzle, and rainbows,
or a tone as soft as snow.
