& she danced against the violins.

By jodeanna

 With tears in her
aquamarine eyes,
she, the ivory
ballerina,
dances under
negative black skies
with the
fluidity of liquid
while mahogany violins
weep openly,
their silver heartstrings
aching violently
as they bleed
their contagious emotion
into the air.

How does one
NOT weep
over the sound
that is best known for
chilling you to
your alabaster bones
while casting shadows
of headstone greys
and pale, lost-love blues
onto the world?

On petal pink toes,
she throws her
fragile body around,
trying to help
her skeletal frame
make a dent
in the universe,
trying to distract
from the
sadness that
the violins inflict.

I have a guilty infatuation with ballet, so combining that with both crippling sadness and a bit of existential confusion just creates the perfect poem for me. I'm glad this got featured on the front page, because it's really a treat.

....this may be the most 'colorful' poem I've seen here. very pretty setting, ballerina in a minor battle against the mournful violins...

Absolutely beautifully written. You can feel the music and emotions...
