Mary-go-round
By FadedBlues
Don't even
regard this as a poem, 'cause it ain't. i have this
recurring vision
abt a plain girl named Mary, high school or
college age. it keeps
kickin around in my head, it's aggravating,
so i'm writin it out,
just words fallin on paper.
she's not pretty like her classmates,
that makes her shy & reclusive.
she goes to the amusement park & rides
the carousel, the only
place she's happy. the animals on the ride
talk to her, i don't know
what they say, i don't speak the language.
it's all telepathic, so i
don't have access anyway.
maybe
one of them even loves her, probably the silver pony, the one
she
rides most of the time. she rubs the cold plaster of its neck,
maybe
that warms it, i don't know.
so that's it. plain Mary. in the
amusement park. rides the carousel. the
animals talk to her. the silver
pony loves her. maybe...oh yeah, happiness.
maybe someone else
could write it better. go ahead, i don't care!
anyway, i feel better
now. see, i told ya it wasn't a poem.
Author's Note:
...I couldn't get the carousel idea to fall naturally into a traditional poem, so i did something unnatural w/it...Comments on "Mary-go-round"

Sigmund Freud might say that Mary was you and the tickle you got way down in your tummy when the pony jumped upright, was the beginning of your repressed sexuality (HA) - oh well, just another idea to leave behind maybe, cheers FB!

Very cool, I think I went to school with this Mary, only her name was Cindy. Sharing a raw idea might just be a new poetic form as this was really great. I think we were all seeing Mary on a silver plastic carousel pony... - XXOO

This reminds me of when I people-watch when developing a character for a story, song, poem . . . I see nothing wrong with presenting a raw idea. Not all works need to be polished, this one doesn't. I like it the way it is. Although, I don't think you're done with Mary just yet. I'll bet she will appear in another fine work YOU've written. Nice one 'Blues. Later -

...this was prophetic, you were just off-target. Mary lives on in the work of someone w/a much more elegant pen...
