The Woman in Black

By Winter Rose

Have you heard the tale of the Woman in Black ?
Never utter it aloud, nor say her name if you dare
She lives in that dingy and broken house yonder
No sounds at all except a grandfather clock and ........  a rocking chair?

You see that face
That dark white face
So thin and  so gaunt
Embedded with both anguish and sorrow

You see those eyes
Those wide piercing eyes
Once true blue, now turned grey
Filling you with both fear and dread

You see her gown
Her Seeping black gown
She wore white once apon a time
Now she blends with the shadows and the mist

You hear the rocking
The slow eerie rocking
Synchronizing with your heartbeat
Now quickening with horror and fright

You think you're safe
You think you're alone
A glimpse of the hooded specter
You turn, and SCREAM

The Woman in Black
With a look cold enough to Kill

So good! it has the scary macabre atmosphere, but I am also so intrigued by the anguish and sorrow seen it the old woman. What is her story? What is behind those eyes? A wonderful poem ! I really enjoy it
