Self Imposed Solitude

By Lylani

The sky is not falling

But everyone's screaming

Cowering in fear

Sunny days fill with storm clouds

Flat roads turn to mountains

With treacherous decisions

None can be right

But believe me,

The struggle is worth the vista

Staring at our own shoes

Too scared of failure to take a step

Instead build walls

Shutter the windows

Forget we are loved until we need to ask a favour

Then cry out that no-one cares

I hear you

Mine are not the right ears

But I am here for you

So we look to the sky

But the stars are throwing knives

Bleeding hearts fall on butchers slabs

Self pity like maggots will find its wings

Lift you to new heights of loneliness

But this is no destiny

This is choice

Bowing to foes

Accepting lies as truth to fuel insecurities

As bitter words come with greater ease than kindness

But you are stronger than you know

Just give yourself a chance

We are all falling, all failing

Screaming in the dead of night

I will never feel the weight of your woes as you do

Just as you will never know mine

But my hand is here for you to hold

Don't think that you are alone

I will always be your friend
