Harmony, Graffiti and All

By lupus tenebrae

Craven shadows come and go,
chasing ripples onto shore,
whiling the endless hours,
musing on this log with me.
Sanctuary long ago,
swallowed by the greenery.

gone is my Cro-Magnon perch,
lost within the scenery.

My audience of willow bark,
once held captive by my prose,
struggle to recall my name,
then recant their static rings.
Arbitrary evergreens,
throwing pinecones to the breeze,

as they clatter fine farewells,
singing to this house of trees.

Barges blaring foghorn smut,
sounding ever vehement,
touting fluid buoyancy,
that once mystified my youth.
Solitary crewmember,
walking in opposing stride,

greater than the mind’s machine,
dizzying effects collide.

I thank the river for its time,
and promise to return someday,
it shimmers to confirm my oath,
as I walk to home again.
Statuary on the shore,
mausoleum so I choose,

columns of an overpass,
littered with a drunkard’s booze.

Recalling an old railroad tie that jutted out over a canal, and was a much coveted fishing spot when we were kids. Just went back last month for a looksee, after the city remodeled and landscaped - all gone now, including the fish. Thanks for the memories Wolfie.
