Epidemic

By Quietus

 Madness all around me.

Spreading through faulty cracks.

There’s something in the water.

Which drips all around.

Drip drip,
Drip drip,
Drip drip,
Drip drip,

Drip…

Drip.

Like a heartbeat

Slowly
Slowing
Down.

Madness all around me.

Spreading through my veins.

There’s something in my blood stream.

Which shouldn’t be allowed.

Drip drip,
Drip drip,
Drip drip,
Drip drip,

Drip…

Drip.

My IV dripping softly

Slowly
Slowing
Down

The wind’s whispers tickle my ear.

The fire’s breath licks at my face.

Hysterical laughter joining my own.

Because they know what I know…

There’s an epidemic, children;
You’d better wash your hands.

Your last line reminds me that there was a time, several hundred years ago, when doctors didn't wash their hands between patient exams, causing many avoidable deaths in hospitals. A brilliant young doctor pleaded with his seniors to do that, which helped solve the problem. I found this in a non-fiction Vonnegut book, "Armageddon in Retrospect", I believe.

That's really interesting. Huh. I just assumed doctors have always been very hygienic, haha. I learn something new every day. Thanks c:
