Mirror

By serenesavage91

Playing dead beneath your eyes,
Putting on this cadaver guise,
Feed until you get your fill,
Feed until you’ve made me ill.

A sick smile turns me green,
Covers me in a sweaty sheen.
Hatred boils into loathing,
You carry on never knowing.

Torturing me with my petty fears,
Choking me with my own damn tears.
You’re everywhere I try to hide,
I carry you with me deep inside.

How can I fight what I cannot see?
How can I kill you and still be me?
The mirror, a monster reflected back,
Swallowing the pills, fading to black.

We hit the floor with your final thoughts,
But I won’t hear them, you’re not my boss.

We tend to be our own worst critics, often what we see in the mirror is nowhere near who we truly are... with that being said, I've faced self issues and you can tell this is passionate poetry... The conflict, loathing, overcoming... you can tell its from the heart and not just bullshit.

The Portrait of Dorian Gray comes to mind. Well done with this reflective work (pun intended) and thanks for sharing, much enjoyed.
