When the Sun Falls

By alesana

Sometimes, when the sun falls
and the claws of cold come creeping out,
they find their way to me.
Sometimes, when the snows come
and the trees grow dark and bare,
the shadows cross my path
and fear is everywhere.

Pining for a light
betwixt these ne'er-ending trees,
I suffocate beneath the dirt
until your arms find me.

You won't let me fall when
the ground starts to slip away.
You'll still hide me safe inside
until the break of day.

Tell me who you are, you,
my guardian angel.
Whisper me your name, so
I can know you're here.

My legs with your help steady;
my will remains in strength.
Your eyes are always on me,
may I only hear your words.
