Patterns of Black

By TheLastDragon

In a dark room even the faintest light
Sets my skull on fire, so intensely bright
Faint outlines blur into patterns of black
I think that my sight may never come back

I know you're still with me; I hear you breathe
The soft murmurings of a restless sleep
The bed creaks slightly, a metallic groan
The machines all pray in a constant drone

The flowers, wilted, are near to thier end
And like creatures of flesh they cannot mend
The damage caused by the passage of time
Like all things that live, they one day must die

Despair sets in, then the bargaining stage
I would trade my soul just for one more day
To turn the clock back to the better years
I would relive sadness and replay fear...

To make better use of precious moments
I'd never let go and always hold them
Close to my heart like the ones who were gone
But no, never you, you were far too strong

The monitor blips one last burst of light
Surely a heartbeat never shined so bright
As I sit here beside you, memories flood back
And fade within me to patterns of black

I like it, and as they say, Normal people have no idea how beautiful the darkness is.

I love black. It's mystery, it's magic.....the sensualness of black. I dont know why. This poem is my new favorite. You made everything so vivid. So alive. There was life in every word. Thanks for sharing:)
