Your Shadows

You look past the woods to the darkness beyond
The withering shadows whisper your name
“Shh” they say
“Don’t make a sound, for we are the shadows who consume the darkest realms of your mind.”
“We scratch our names in your arms and paralyze your thoughts, for we are the shadows who watch you at night.”
You try to run but you don’t get very far
The insidious shadows appear beside you each time
“Don’t be afraid” they say
“Don’t try to fight, for we are the shadows who control your being.”
“We play with your strings and make you do evil things, for we are the shadows who live in your mind.”
You try to stay pure but the crave is overwhelming, like an itch you can’t scratch.
The vile shadows cut your wrists and watch you bleed
“See, you like it” they say
“Don’t try to hide the smile in your eyes, for we are the shadows who concede in you’re addiction.”
“We live in your sorrow and enjoy your pain, for we are simply…you.”
