It's 3 a.m.

By celestine_moon

It's 3 a.m.
and I don't even know why
i'm writing

Staring at a screen
all day, detatched
I guess I just need.

Need.

Attention, connection,
extension, pretension,
other words that rhyme...

It's 3 a.m.
Can you tell I
need you?

Couldn't make up my fucking
mind today.
Never know what to say.

I love you, but why
do you insist on
writing me sonnets?

Mable, at the gas station,
lights me a cigarette.
Maybe the cold Wisconsin air
will do me good.

Eyes heavy, neck sore.
Doubt I'll fall sound asleep
But anything is better than
this 3 a.m. limbo.

Not quite awake,
not yet asleep.
Not quite alive,
not yet dead.

Fall upon my bed.

Restless limbo captured beautifully. I especially loved the pairing of the "sonnets" stanza with the "Mable" stanza.
