Lucifer's Song

By Poe Etiquette

The fruit, the fruit, seize the fruit,

See how the mouth of the world is mute,

Defile your soul and open your mind,

Take one bite and their music you'll find

The sweetest fruit from the loveliest tree,

By my limbs on its limbs I swear you'll be free,

You can not refuse yourself your greatest desire,

If you but take it and taste the glorious fire

You can not live without taking a bite,

Take it and turn the day into night,

Taste it and turn your loss into gain,

For it will relieve your body of pain

This world will be yours and only yours,

From the mountains and valleys to ocean's shores,

You shall have power over man and beast,

A goddess, divine with earth as your feast

Only to you I call, firstborn, my lover

Love only me, the trees arms as our cover,

Come into my arms, let grass be our bed,

Your soft white skin against mine so red

Your fresh dark blood will feed the tree,

And your beautiful soul will belong to me,

I will give you knowledge and wisdom,

And all your children to me shall come

Has the Lord himself not said, in song,

That all is good and none is wrong,

But if all is not well in day or night,

Then eat the fruit and set it right

Oh Lady fair, oh Lady so young,

If all is good then so is my song,

And has he told thee not to touch,

Any fruit from tree or bush

Has He not declared the garden is yours,

Then so is the tree and all it devours,

So daughter of man I implore you make haste,

Pick but one fruit and indulge one taste

For you shall not surely die,

My arms grasp its branches and look at I,

Alive and well, enlightened and strong,

So taste it dove and hear my song

"lucem ferre verbum"

Daughter of man your time has come,

For the world that once was is now undone,

The serpent has sung and the fruit is bereft,

But the fruit of your womb shall know no death

Oh serpent your seed of guile and hate,

Has sown in man's heart and opened the gate,

But from the race you seek to drown,

Shall come a King to crush your crown

Cursed are you and cursed is man,

But his curse shall end by the blood of His hand,

The very hand you seed to strike,

Shall open up and spew forth light

The word of God, the light of men,

Shall soon the world's wrongs ammend,

He shall end man's curse  upon a tree,

By a tree man died so shall he be free

How easily subdued Eve was, and how we are all in a way susceptible to making the same mistakes into sinful pleasures. If your ever curious about Adam's first actual wife, look up Lilith and read on that one. That woman was a goddess.

It made me think of perhaps how gullible and imperfect we are as humans, as well as the original innocence of Eve. I especially loved the ending; I'm glad it didn't just cut off with man being cursed. It made the poem so much more hopeful.
