...Left Vacant and Condemned...
By NikesRain
nothing
lives here anymore
hours floating past windows shut against the cold
but the chill has already penetrated this house
windows staring blankly at barren fields of hope
once it knew a shining bright with candlelight
it's grown silent under the change in season
now only ghosts dwell to dance in mocking grace
slowly the hearth became silent of any fire
flames once so warm and inviting with comfort
sputtered and fell victim to time and need
burning low gasping fighting for familiar oxygen
gaining only weighted ice filled air
heated palms reaching out in failed attempts
falling short they withdrew folding into themselves
leaves scatter and swirl on echoing floors
their maddened scrape screaming never heard
they make no sound if there's no one to listen
destined to die slowly in suffocating silence
to rest expiring huddled in dark corners
they lay as faith in thin massed corpses of yesterday
veins chilled to collapsed in and wither weeping
days rise and fall bringing winds with choking dust
minuscule particles of a shattered illusion of beauty
left to rest scattered upon long dead smiles and sighs
dulling every surface with freeze dried tears
until everything is shrouded in heartbroken breaths
a cottage sits in decay forgotten and fading
foundation broken dying against the earth
mocked by time
condemned by cold skies

Brutal imagery.... so barren and cold.... crushing death of a home... I think there may be a an extra article in " it knew a shining bright with candlelight" ? Maybe? It doesn't get much darker than this... desolation and despair can not be expressed more elegantly.... Well wrought, ms Doe.
