This woman

By LostInTime

I spent last night in an emergency room
With a beautiful woman searching for hell.
Two days of drinking mouthwash and rubbing alcohol
Will damn near open those gates.
The nurses cleaned the blood covering her
and put the needle back in every time she pulled it out
Over and over in this strange dance.
The doctor talked, questioned, begged
But his domain is flesh and blood
Not demons and souls.
This woman
that walked with me holding my hand
Flirting with the waves on the beach
This woman
that raised wondrous children
That make the world a brighter place
This woman
that would gaze up with loving eyes
As I covered her in my love.
This woman
is choosing to die
And all of life and logic and words of God
Cannot make me understand this.
