Now I lay me down

By LostInTime

Now I lay me down to sleep

What if
As the evening falls asleep on your pillow
She should turn her head and say
This is not the way.
This is not the way.
I am tired of carrying these baskets of sand.

I pray the lord my soul to keep

What if
As she slumbers restless and lonely
She should echo the dream and say
This is not the way.
This is not the way
I can no longer form tomorrow in my head.

If I should die

What if
As the morning rapped on your window
She had no voice to say
This is not the way
This is not the way.
This bright tunnel beacons me gently home.

Before I wake.
