~Street Side Cafe~

Oh how do I love
the street side cafe

cool Saturday afternoons

the feeling
of sunlight
warming the skin

the cool breeze
that has wrapped itself
and molded
its shape
conquering
every crevice
to emerge
effortless
and uncomplicated

cooling my skin

The cold ale
that seems to flow
ever so easily
down my throat

at first
quenching my thirst
then serving me
with the intoxication
and juvenescence
of stories
yet untold

suddenly
i have
a hunger

the waitress
she wanders by
asking

"Is there anything you desire"

she hands forth
a menu
all filled with
the delectable
flavors
both old
and new
with aromas
so penetrating
to my sinuses

every bite
so palatable
an awakening
of senses
as the flavors
arouse my tongue
with gentle mixtures
of the sweet
and savory
the morsels of meat
from when I was young

with our bellies filled
we strike into
good conversation

we pass a smoke
remembering
the triumph
and the woes
we shared
in our youth
the histories
not all the same

bestowing
the unique
experience

our thoughts
intermingling
as lonely troubadours
play across the way
strumming
and strumming
wonderful songs
their words
seem to float
ever so gently
from the intellect
riding the current
gliding across
the breeze
serving up
inspiration

sweeping me
to a new place
where the world
is my muse

for a second
I am taken

for a second
I am lost

for a second
I am found

and in this instance

I

no longer

hunger

I am

satisfied

oh how I love

the Street Side Cafe
