She Cried Last Night

By Malcholm Dark

She cried last night...

She wanders the house
She speaks loudly
To doorways
Windows
Closets
The ceiling
And to me.

She searches for her love
Lost recently
Death by old age
I walk to a door
She follows--she waits
Hoping for hope
A glimpse of him.

She sits where he died
Where he curled up
And said good-bye
She waits
She calls
Never knowing
Always asking.

She cried last night
I looked to see
Her blue eyes
Slightly glazed
Looking through me
Looking through sadness
Looking for him.

My cat cried last night
And all I could do...
was cry with her.

Good-bye old dude, we miss you.
