I Am The Night

By Malcholm Dark

From a fog like mist that creeps over the ground
To the fleet-footed wolf, with barely a sound.
I can incite the night within many forms
An evil as pure as the rage within storms.
Eyes as blackest coal with a cold--deadly stare
I shall deal out horror to all everywhere!
I am the malodorous infection that rots the soul
An everlasting plague upon mankind, a black hole.
My castle is decorated with items of great worth
A coffin lies hidden, the inside layered in earth.
I am immortal and shall never grow old
My story is ancient, this is well told.
--I stalk midnight way with a hunger for blood
my evil runs rampant, so cometh the flood.
--To the warm bodied souls that flourish by light
you may rule the day, but I am the night!

The village lies silent with windows lit by lamp-fire
A moon's silky glow brings the flight of the vampire!
The door breaks way easily and does unhinge
I take an old man for my bloodletting binge.
I take his old woman in the same grisly way
I take with me their daughter for another day!
A village in shock, all eyes widened in silence
Who is this madman that invokes such violence?
Within the stillness of night the women are grieving
As I fade into darkness, I'll bid you good evening.
But take heart fearful ones as the sun's on the rise
A savior has come to set forth this monster's demise.
--I stalk midnight way with a hunger for blood
my evil runs rampant, so cometh the flood.
--to the warm bodied souls that flourish by light
you may rule the day, but I am the night!

A partisan crowd gathers, the time has come to fight
It is good versus evil, it is wrong against right.
Battle plans have been made, there's a wicked beast at large
Torch-fires lick at the dark, thundering hooves call the charge.
The townsmen enter my castle by smashing through the gate
Men and horses in a gore of bloody hell, meet their fate!
The slayer wades past the carnage to make a stand
With wooden steaks and a cross of silver in hand.
He looks about the carnage with not a single moan
His eyes give rise displaying a real hateful tone.
He stares at me with anger. "Time to die," he would say
With confidence I come back,  "Let me show you the way!"
--I stalk midnight way with a hunger for blood
my evil runs rampant, so cometh the flood.
--To the warm bodied souls that flourish by light
you may rule the day, but I am the night!

A battle in the halls of my castle, the damp air so remnant
But my battle turns to God as I change and become malignant.
A face that bubbles, my features mutate
Eyes turn to crimson, my fangs elongate!
His eyes wide with horror, his heart, it does race
Mortal man, behold me--this the vampire's true face!
"It is I you have come for, take me now if you can
For I was conceived from darkness, not of mortal man.
A desperate fight rages as the light of dawn fills the room
And with the dawn comes the sun and my inevitable doom.
From the bowels of darkness hear the demon as he cried
Rotted flesh turns to ashes, this vampire has now died.
--I stalked midnight way with zeal and zest
my evil lies dormant as I was laid to rest.
--To the warm bodied souls that flourished by light
beware of the shadows...
                                 remember the night!

Very good write again, I felt like I was reading a script for one of those classic vampire movies, "I am the malodorous infection that rots the soul" excellent line, thanks for sharing. Scholar
