Love Within War, The great Paradox

By Malcholm Dark

An entire city laid to waste by the bomb
Pockets of people survived, yet most are gone.
Sweet Jesus!!!  Someone turned the sirens on
Let slip the bombs upon us, here they come.
--A people set upon, they are no more
give praise to the victor, our god of war.

A grieving father, a devastated mother
A shattered wife, his significant other.
A friend forever, forever lost, his only brother
A funeral parade, the charade of love we smother.
--A congressional medal of honor winner
his relatives gather to mourn over dinner.

A soldier rides within a mechanized columned line
Three vehicles in front are blown apart by a mine.
Hours of darkness, waiting for help--A sliver in time
Friends lie screaming and dying--A fucking of the mind.
--His young wife says, "he's not the same."
Love within war, a harsh played game.

A deep bomb crater, the empty black hole
Where my heart once was, a desolate soul.
I turned you away and became un-whole
I fell from the light, my love paid the toll.
--We love within war like hounds and the fox
we live but aren't real, the great paradox.

That was so amazing, love shouldn't happen on the battlefield, for it is doomed to tragedy. You painted a magnificent picture, I could actually see bombs falling, and people caught in the blast. Thanks for this. Scholar
