The Forgotten

By Malcholm Dark

I am the forgotten, once destined for another life
See my sadness, see my shame, see my scams.
I am street-wise
I am tramp
I use alcohol to drown away my sorrows
I have been known to feed from trash-bins to survive.
I am scourge
I am wasted
I use drugs to forget what I could have been
I have been known to steal and kill to survive.
I am beggar
I am deceiver
I use a sign and ask for money on every corner
I use gimmicks--I use lies--I used to be.
I am hobo
I am bum
Sometimes I have mental problems, I live off the State
I can be dangerous--I am a paid liability.
I am useless
I am drifter
Sometimes I am disabled, I live off the Government
I pay no taxes--I live off you.
I am unwelcomed
I am vagrant
You look the other way, but I am here
You drive past, yet I wave
You care less, but I exist.
I am transient
I am derelict
I am everything you aspire not to be
And I care not that you don't care for me
I stopped caring a long time ago
Because...
I was once like you
Now I am forgotten!

Raw and honest. SO many excellent lines. Referrals to everyday life and existence that people turn away from. And the bottom line..."I care not that you don't care for me...I stopped caring a long time ago". I have told that to people's faces at work. This is fine writing.

Wow my poem inspired you to write this amazing poem? It was a great read, and you really shed light on this side of life, that's commonplace nowadays. Scholar
