An Ode To A Man

By Malcholm Dark

                  "Life begins!
Man grows from his mistakes and through the imperfections
                   His experience is little.
Mans' experience is but a short bout with aged time
                   And time always prevails.
And the day shall come when the almighty one will call
                   The  toll is due.
On that day judgement for the spirit shall be rendered
                   His deeds as a mortal.
Unless, the opportunity is given to mend his past
And set right the things that had slipped from him
                   A second chance!
--You may call this redemption
and feel the warmth of its' forgiveness.
--I call it hell,
for I have witnessed its' vengeance,
heard its' screams,
felt its' pain!
                   And its' everlasting..."

                  "He is here!
A mortal from across the sea of time is amongst us
                   And we welcome him.
A force of one, like the mighty storm that sweeps our land
                   We praise him.
Destiny has surely taken rise in the form of a destroyer
                   We huddle in his wake!
Speak softly his name, for his deeds are many
Speak softly and take care, for the lion knows his heart
                   And the devil, his soul.
--I have seen this man in all his glory
and was frightened.
--He travels the hostile breeze from the breath of hell
and calls down from atop the hand of Death!
                   God help us all..."

                  "A cry of battle!
The raging onslaught covers our land in a wave of blood
                   The enemy has invaded.
The smell of death and steel is but a sweet aroma to us all
                   The fight is at hand.
The dogs of war are unleashed, the melee turns to carnage
                   And we fall back.
But the mighty serpent rises up and rears his ugly head
                   We counter attack.
An intensity of rage ensues, fired by an undying fear
We follow the serpent into incredible odds and sure defeat
                   Fly the steel breeze!
--A stillness echoes 'round, twisted bodies a hundred-fold,
the maggots crawl and the buzzards descend.
--The scales of the serpent lay ripped and bloodied,
the teeth of the tiger, chipped and broken,
the eyes of defiance grows dull
as death creeps over him.
A battle won, a hero lost..."

                  "They Speak!
The words of the wise fall down upon us all
                   We listen.
The echoes of knowledge, our minds they want
                   We learn.
Hear me!  A cry of salvation which carries the hope
                   We stand and embrace it.
He died the destroyer, our dreams secured
                   We cry.
Live on the sounds of knowledge for they are endless
Live on they speak through the darkness of drowning time
                   Their ways we yearn.
--The wind whispers his name
and the children shall listen.
--Tell of our fallen hero
for he is the knowledge!
                   And is, everlasting..."
