Worms And The Earth

By Malcholm Dark

I take one final rest within the comfort of my room
While pondering such thoughts as my inevitable doom.
What may be despairing to others, is welcomed by some
Then vaults forth my anxiety of what is about to come.
My body and mind cry out for that long peaceful sleep
So for me, shed no tears, it is contentment I'll reap.

--I have always savored life for what it was worth,
soon, I have a date with the worms and the earth.

So fragile is life as we age and grow old
The coming of death is so dark and so cold.
My eyes fall into a stare, lost in shadows of time
I see textures on the wall, every mark, every line.
Then as blackness becomes me, lost is my room
That time has now come, my inevitable doom!

--On a ship sailing home to the city of Perth,
for I have a date with the worms and the earth.

My people have gathered, the epilogue read
"He is of the silence," so the pastor said.
From a body housed in darkness, deep in the ground
Comes a soul for departure, celestial bound.
Soon worms will start churning in a hungering lust
Then comes the ashes to ashes and the dust to dust.

--I am consigned to a graveyard in the land of my birth,
at six feet under...
I now belong to the worms and the earth!

       An Analogy For The Damned

Beneath the tombstones listen...
Hear the howl of unrelenting devastation
Decaying flesh succumbs to the inevitable.
Hear the worms call as they twist and churn
Ever yearning for your rotted, soulless flesh.

--We shall all turn back to what we're worth.
food for the worms and essence for the earth!
