Silence

By Scarrzz

* * *

Goose down feathers, drifting slowly downward

Delicate crystalline fortresses of purest white set against an ashen sky

There is something surreal here,

Some bridge between reality and spirit.

Effortlessly they descend unto the Earth

Quiet now, for there is reverence in this place

No wind stirs, neither from the left nor from the right

Do not speak, for no language can contain this

Only know that what was, remains

and what is, can never be undone

The only thing that is ever truly lost is the future

Silently I honor some unwritten law

Lying in this all embracing cold

I do not breathe, for it is beyond me

Neither do I move from this place I have chosen

The snowflakes speak to me of eternity

Ephemeral remembrances of a time when

Snowflakes were appetizers for kisses

As they fell on our tongues

And white missiles exploded into laughter

With a warmth that would melt any heart

But now they crush me beneath this hoary blanket

Footsteps approach, but I cannot see the face

Kneeling, she brushes the snow from my stone

And draws a pattern on my chest once more

A single tear for what might still have been

And then she walks silently away

Her tears still taste the same

As effortlessly I descend into the Earth

Snowfall is the sound of my heart breaking

Perfection. I have to say my favourite writes are love and tragedy. Did not see that coming. The imagery is delicate so that it makes the sadness all that greater. Beautiful, haunting piece
