Old dog
By Lylani
If years taught me anything
It was to hold my heart
Safe
Secure
Away from idle passers by
Free with flirtations
Unbecoming to commitment
But I learnt you before I learnt this
I learnt to fall without fear
Sing devotion to your deaf ears
To hang every hope on drunken promises
Trust without question
Love without reward
And so I am grown
My life like others
scattered
With victories and disappointments
A brighter shade of grey than most
But every so often
Your unfulfillable lies
bathe me in neon flames
To lighten my heart
I am just fun to you
But you're the 'one' to me

I work w/animals and am constantly watching them leave this world...anyway this hit home w/me...and these lines are perfect!
