New Streets at Night

By dark_sister

Walking my new streets at night,
past rich houses with glowing rooms and artwork.
I peer into exposed windows.
Catch sight of a leg reclining.
A tumble of bookshelves.
Eyes peering back at me.
Cats howl in the distance.
Everything is a loudness.
The helicopter,
hundreds of people breathing,
but yet we keep our voices hushed.
So many little lives, so quiet,
pushed close together,
makes a trembling buzz of inner city.

It's realness I can feel in my heart.
A sleepy realness that pulls me from my porch.
I stalk the alleyways.
Pulling strangers in my wake.
Searching for the secret noise
that everyone is afraid of,
that signal sound.
So many little lives, so quiet,
pushed close together,
neighbors all with fearful rabbit noses,
makes my tongue loll,
my senses quicken.
I vibrate with the buzzing of my inner city.

Got to agree with Fish here. "I stalk the alleyways. Pulling strangers in my wake." Your work is amazing line after amazing line.
