Seeing Sense

By Lylani

My idealistic tendencies
Let you blind me
with words of love
attired in empty promises

I made you my world
Set apart from all else
upon a pedestal on high

My rose tinted glasses
Hid all your imperfections
I thought you a star in a cold night sky
But it was my reflection in your puddle
For it was I
Who hoped and dreamt for you
While you clung to river beds
Determined to drown in self pity

I always imagined you a fallen angel
With pure heart and broken wings
Foolishly I believed
If I could help you fly
You would see all the colors of love
Not just the darkness of despair

But you are less than empty
You are vacuous
In your need for sympathy
A vampire of emotions
Taking all I have
And still weeping for more
A demon
Concealed
Behind
Puppy dog eyes
Gorging yourself on others Kindness
Yet never feeling sated
So eager to feed
Your addiction to pity
Forever laying blame on those around you

You were not attacked in the dark
Or led to this life in shackles
You chose to be less than a man
You chose to give up
Now so do I

I give up on you

There is so much strength of character in this piece, reinforced by the beautiful imagery. There is so much strength but also so much affection, even if you wish there was not. Those feelings hurt the most. An outstanding piece.

Thank you, this was actually mostly constructed out of the bits I edited out of Never Ever After. After someone made a comment about that being hopeful I was determined to write a more hopeless piece and now I've managed affection -dammit, I guess it just goes to show that no matter what some people do you never entirely stop caring no matter how much you try.

isn't that a bitch? No matter how hard you try... there they are, behind closed eyes. *sigh*

I thought this was great, seeing sense or logic in the face of a romanticized emotion, infatuation or "love", either one which inhibits the mind. Enjoyed reading it though, *tips hat*

scathing finality, but I can't help but saying... good for you! then... I can't help but notice that we seem to write in similar cycles. HA! is that a good or bad thing?

Yeah we really do, I guess that's why I enjoy reading your work so much. I think its good for the page and a little less good for our emotional well being
