I kissed an Angel

By Lylani

I kissed an angel
And stood in awe and wonder
at perfection revealed
His purity burnt my corrupt flesh
His innocence astounded me
Every touch struck a crushing blow
As he bought shame to my empty heart

Loveless I played
and Tried to discover the passion I should feel
But there was nothing
But bitter twisted thoughts
I, the devils whore
and He an angel sent from God
I reached up but never touched
Dazzled by his purity
I once knew, but have long forgotten

The stark brightness of his naivety
shows every stain of my imperfection
Displays my impending condemnation
And as this angel loves
I flee
Ashamed of who I am
Terrified I may destroy this angel
or destroy myself

I desire to love but have no heart
So I return to the shadows
The darkness where I hide my bloodstained flesh
Leaving you to stand in the light, where you belong
To embrace your 'ever after' dreams
which have been banished form my soul
