WANTED: A reason to live

By Circe Avalon

I need to find a new reason to live
Control and endurance
these weapons have become over taxed and rusty
and control was really never mine to master
I'll endure anything
not because I want to , but because I have little choice
Endure or die
I was once a proud warrior
honorable wounds abound
But I have been cut to the quick
the marrow now leaches the color from my face
the pallor of the moon shines through my eyes
I have spilled much upon the ground
my blood, my enemies blood
my tears and mine enemies
I have come to realize the identity of my foe
when we meet upon the battlefield I looked into his eyes
His mask then dissolved and Reason stared me in the face
I realized he should have been standing at my side
instead I fought against Reason
Reason no longer considered me his comrade
Now, I have laid some of my weapons aside
Now endurance is my only tool
I need a new reason to live
Conviction and resolution
enlightenment and hope
these things are part of the new reason I need to find

Well if I may suggest some reasons to live, if nothing stands out today, then you never know what tomorrow will bring. Others may benefit from your being around, or maybe you just haven't found out the real reason you are here in the first place. And I enjoy reading your poetry :-)

thanks for reading my poetry! And I am happy you enjoy it. This poem represents the struggle, ending life is not an option so I want a reason to struggle. I am not one to off myself, I am logical, I want a logical reason. Thanks for the comments, Read on and enjoy! And you are right, there is tommorow to look forward to.

sounds like an emo willing to fight off the force of depression with just a little push of words or life.

in most cases that I have know emo's are willing to cut and maim themselves. Life does enough harm, no need to mutilate oneself. Personally, I think we all need a little reassuring words once in a while, whether or not one choses to injure themselves.

mathematical reason. death = 0 ; life = x ; life as a sum of experiences can not possibly equal zero, as you are required to experience by nature of life, so x > 0 ; so, if life is x and death is 0 and x is greater than 0 the equation is: (life > death) . there you have it.

The poem isn't about death. It's about not beginning able to give up but not seeing what to live for. A inability. A handicap. Life is a riddle without an answer, which means that the reason to live has no answer either. But that doesn't stop people from looking...

i'm sorry, i often mask true feelings with silliness. i found this poem to be moving in a lot of ways, there have been more than a few times in my life when i've seriously questioned the cost to benefit ratio of life. not a suicide thing, but as a practical thing. it bears questioning and this poem expresses that.
