Flash Flood

By Circe Avalon

fastening down
the prevailing winds of hard emotions thunder my strongholds
for mere moments my shoulders sag
and in comes the lightening
this tyrant
this hurricane
has been building up
and like a damn that has taken to much pressure
a great river bursts forth
frothing and debris
bottled from when there was no time to let it go
the foundation of my reserve has cracked
brittle now and chipped
flood waters rage and the course is unavoidable
let it run,
it would be dangerous to do otherwise
these pent up aggressions fetter out
turn to mumbles and moans
their is no one to rub my shoulders and whisper reassuring things
reminded of this helps little in stopping the small wave
a little down pour of self pity
no time to let the damage dry
must start with the mortar
to begin the foundations again
they may be weak, but they are tempered with resolve.
