Heredity (Let's Drink Until We Die)

By shadowsinthelight

They won’t miss me at the meeting
As I quest for deeper meaning
I can see clearer in the fog
Further from myself, closer to God

I have a few dollars
And a pocket full of pills
I have a few hours
And a life to kill

Let us drink to ourselves
Let us toast to someone else
Raise your glasses to the sky
Now is the time for getting high
Let’s drink until we die
Let’s drink until we die

They say I am needing help
That I am damaging myself
I cannot escape me
So I turn into someone else

Now’s the time for getting high
Let’s drink until we die

My ex does not understand
My bruised kid will, when he is a man
A family gene tradition
Intoxication is our mission

Raise your glasses high
Let’s drink until we die

Face down, I have prefect world dreams
Vodka springs, red wine streams
Crystal falls of champagne
Sweet Kentucky bourbon rains

Raise your glasses to the sky
Let’s drink until we die

I think,
What drunk could ask for more
As I crawl across the barroom floor
To pray in a once white walled room
That my death will come soon

Raise your glasses high
Let’s drink until we die

Where the hell are my keys
Fuck you and your taxis
Help me up
I know I can drive
Hey Joe,
How ‘bout one for the road

Let us drink to ourselves
Let us toast to someone else
Raise your glasses to the sky
Now is the time for getting high
Let’s drink until we die
Let’s drink, let’s drink
Let’s drink until we die

Hello my name is so and so
I am an alcoholic, don’t you know
It’s been three months since my fall
Haven’t had a drop of alcohol
But my mind is not at ease
I still have this disease
Should I thank God
I am alive
Or that
I will still want that next drink
Until the day I die
Until the day I die . . .

This peice is insane. It's amazing. Greatly written. It'd be a good song, but it's a better poem. My cup is raised toasting this poem, Let us drink untill we die, let us drink untill we die ...

If it weren't so horribly real, I'd want it to be made into a drinking song.

this piece brings a tear to my eye, im just reminded of my father and his drnking and driving, my mom drinking to depression, and now they both get drunk every night, but at least they're together... *~*aNDReW*~*

  • A former member wrote: But now I feel much more comfortable in telling you that this piece just gives me the creeps. It always will I think. When I think of all the things I grew up around and went through involving this particular "Heredity" I just cringe.....

  • A former member wrote: But on the other hand I must admit this is a work of art and very well stated. It just ...well its just too close for comfort to me.

absolutely bad ass... i've seen this in the fav's section of many and finally checked it out... matt's right, this is a song, an excellent one (by mine and pop's standards) very apocolyptic, the end of all things... and who wants to remember that?
