Shelter

By steuss

Unknown tree types cover my head,
they canopy the skyline,
and only taller buildings block out the horizon,
barely seen from the leafy intervening green.
I avoid looking up, as leaves are only seen.

As I'm walking i remember;
we live in a treed oasis,
farmland is our desert
and a satellite tells a blob dropped on corn fields.

The city has more trees than the country.

I continue walking,
looking up now; branches and leaves
backdropped by bluish glows.
This is a dome of choice.

As we come together,
huddling against the cold of entropy and alone
our uncovered heads naked in sunlight,
the rain, the snows, the unknown.
We're insects under the unsheltered sky.
We dash for buildinged cover,
Reassure our fears in shade.
We come together and hide beneath a green blanket,
grouping together
to push out someone to see if its safe.

No longer walking,
I'm staring at the sky, a burning dot
forming in my eye,
uncaring and unabashed the sky becomes
another dome, and worried,
that another barrier comes so easily,
I rush to the shade. Careful.
There might be someone looking down.
